Mini Portfolio!

Hi, My name is Jess.

I am a bit taller than a polar bear while my brother, Sean, is closer to the height of a short-faced bear (as long as the bear doesn't stand upright).

I'm from University of Connecticut, where I took classes in black & white photography and printmaking.

 My first printmaking project!

One of my final prints. Our professor, Gus, looked exactly like Santa! Over the summer, he had visited some print shops in Cuba and brought a bunch of supplies that he planned on donating to them. However, the airline he was on lost his bagged along with his supplies. So for one of my final projects, I made my professor into Santa, with a sack of presents to Cuba, with the saying "Happy Holidays" in Polish for good measure because Gus loved everything Polish. I gave him one of my editions of this print.

After a year and a half, I came to San Jose State through National Student Exchange for the spring semester to escape the giant wind tunnel and knee-deep snow known as Storrs, CT during the winter. I told family and friends that even though I would miss them dearly, that this wasn't a "big deal." I wasn't moving permanently or anything, I was coming right back.

But I didn't.

I was enrolled in John Clapp's 112A and Dave Chai's 28, and I fell in love with the program. Maybe hearing "squint" over and over again brainwashed me. Maybe because I was required to call out my favorite food during roll call. But I saw more skill and talent in the intermediate illustration classes than Uconn's graduating seniors. When I asked multiple Uconn graduates what they were gonna do with their lives. The answer was often, "I dunno......take a year off.....then find some freelance work..." This wasn't comforting me and my student loans. I soon found out that SJSU, on the other hand, had an amazing program and reputation.

So I stayed. =)

So here I am, 2 years later. I'm currently taking 113B, Physics of Animation, Modern Film, and Figure Drawing. I also work at the MLK library where I am well too acquainted with the smell of hobo. I also dog sit for people in my neighborhood to make some extra cash, as well as get my dog fix since I can't have one where I live.

I wanted to posted my Indiana Jones themed animation final from 28. However, the drive I had it on got corrupted a long time ago and no other files of it are floating around, as far as I know. So, I will leave you with some entertaining dinosaur and kitty videos instead!

The Best Dinosaur
Because I could only link this video before.

Bonus Video!
I want the dinosaur kitty!

  1. Sounds like you're having fun in sunny California. Love both clips; those prints are very nice too (I do some printmaking from time to time). 10 points
PS Keep backups of your work
